Revolution Rail
Revolution Rail is a fun excursion activity that allows riders to ride the railroad tracks under their own power and explore a section of the Adirondacks that has never seen passenger traffic. Railbikers check in at the historic North Creek train station, take a short shuttle ride, and then go on their 6 mile round trip tour. The season booked up quickly – they are starting reservations for next summer in November. New routes keep being added, there is now the "South" route, the Riparius Run and what I call the workout excursion - not an easy pedal but if you have adventure types in your group...

Tubing
Tubby Tubes - Tubby Tubes River Co., Lake Luzerne, NY (about 45 minutes from the Hudson House)
Just named as the No. 7 river tubing company in the United States by USA Today’s 10Best. Tubby Tubes River Co. is in Lake Luzerne, about 7 miles south of Lake George, It has been in business for more than 20 years. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, Tubby Tubes invites explorers aged 2 and older to float down the wandering Hudson River from the comfort of an inflatable tube.
“The relaxed ‘lazy river’ float follows a scenic stretch of clear water surrounded by Adirondack mountain scenery,” 10Best wrote in its review of Tubby Tubes. “Trips include tubes, life jackets, shuttle transportation and river guides who accompany guests along the route.”
Hiking
Explore more than 1800 miles of marked trails, including the 46 Adirondack High Peaks. There are several great trails near the house for the moderate hiker that we've done and enjoyed:
Raymond Brook Trail - the trailhead is a minute drive south from the House and eventually connects to the Old Ski Bowl at Gore. There are climbs and descents regardless of where you start, but there are some great water features and lots of dense trees.
OK Slip Falls - if you head North to Indian Lake, the trailhead parking lot s about 15 minutes from the house on the left hand side. Park and walk north until you see the trailhead on the right (below the guardrail). The hike is 3.1 miles each way with the pictured waterfall at the end.
Gore Mountain
Gore Mountain is not just for skiing. There is a Gondola Ride from the basin which offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. Enjoy the hiking and mountain biking trails and try disc golf!.

Lake Abanakee - Indian Lake Beach

As you go north up Route 28 there are signs on the right for Lake Abanakee (before the town). There is a sandy beach for chairs, etc. and a dock for swimming out in the lake. There is also a put in for canoes and kayaks off 28. This is the place to go fishing!

Lake Abanakee Sugar House

For local maple syrup and other unique gifts, this is a must stop. We happened upon her “workshop” during her syrup season and got to see it being made firsthand. She has her trees around the lake and they were collecting the spring run. The wooden house is on the right hand side heading towards Indian Lake and she usually has a flag out by the street. It’s very easy to miss, so start going slower about 14 miles up the road….
Great Camp Sagamore
One of the great camps, Sagamore was the Adirondack home of the Vanderbilt family and is now a National Historic Landmark.
Adirondack Museum
Beautiful location and very well done, this is a museum for comfortable walking shoes and at least a couple of hours. There is an outdoor area for the kids where they can play historic games.
The museum collection includes a number of large objects, including a Pullman railroad car, several guide boats and an Idem class racing sailboat, a steam locomotive, a one-room schoolhouse, the rustic "Sunset Cottage", and the Log Hotel, built in 1876 and original to the museum's site, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Sagamore Hotel
Gorgeous, Gorgeous, Gorgeous. This is the quintessential Adirondack / Lake George Resort with spectacular views without any of the congestion of Lake George, itself. Perfect for lunch on the terrace and there are patios on the water with Adirondack chairs and cocktail menus. There are several small towns en route with their own vistas so the drive to Bolton Landing is a pleasure as well.

A phenomenal 20 minute ride (or longer if desired) of the area around Long Lake. A thrilling takeoff and landing in an seaplace should be on every bucket list.
Buttermilk Falls

This highly popular short hike destination right outside of Long Lake is a favorite for families, picnickers, swimmers and anglers. Above the falls there is a canoe launch used for boating up the Raquette River. Below the falls there are picnic spots as well as swimming areas.
The Wild Center
Near Tupper Lake, the Wild Center has many ways to connect with nature through outdoor experiences like iForest, guided canoe trips, and a 54,000 square foot museum with live animals and hands on everything. The new Wild Walk is an elevated trail across the Adirondack treetops.
